Genesis thinks it’s important for children to brush their teeth, and says she wants to be a dentist when she grows up. Her brilliant smile will serve her well as a live-and-in-color advertisement. This quiet, sweet-natured young girl likes playing basketball and making jewelry, and is very proud of winning a citizenship award at school “because I behave in class.” Genesis also feels pretty good about finishing her homework every day.
Drawn to “smart people [who] like social studies, math and reading,” Genesis also prefers pals who are as active as she is. “They should like football, too,” she adds. She loves Arianna Grande, her favorite board game is Mancala and if she could pick just one great talent, it would be “drawing pretty pictures.” When she imagines her future family, the portrait often changes.
“I don’t mind if my new family is just a mom or if I have both parents. It doesn’t matter if I’m the only child or if I have new siblings. I don’t mind if I have to share my room or do chores, and I don’t care if my family is a different race than me,” she says. What remains constant is her wish for a family – whatever that looks like – with whom she can share her feelings and be safe. A dog would be great, too.
“I’d name it Blue,” says Genesis.
