Adoption: List of Steps to Adopt if you Live in Naother County Within Florida
- Call Our Kids at 305-455-2563
- Our Kids of Miami-Dade and Monroe requests your county complete an Adoptions Home Study and help you complete an Adoption Application. This is called an "OTI" or "Out-of-Town Inquiry." Miami Dade is referred to as the sending county
- Your county assigns a social worker to visit you in your home, give you an Adoption Application and begin preparing an Adoption Home Study including background screening and fingerprinting
- You will be invited to attend a 10-week training course MAPP (or Model Approach to Partnership in Parenting) in order to help prepare you and your family for adoption
- The assigned social worker in your county provides the information to Our Kids
- Information on visits, the Adoption Application, the home study and other pertinent information is presented in Juvenile Dependency Court
- The court will provide an order allowing the child or children to be placed in your home
- Miami-Dade informs your county that the child or children are now living with you
- Your county's social worker will visit your home for a minimum of 90 days during the Placement Supervision period. This period will end when a "consent to adopt" is presented to your adoption attorney
- Your attorney will schedule a hearing before the Juvenile Dependency Court at which time the adoption becomes legal and the child becomes a legal member of your family!
